Olympus to Build Digital Camera Plant in Vietnam

Tokyo, Nov 15, 2007 (Jiji Press) - Olympus Corp. <7733> said Thursday it will build a production plant in Vietnam for lens units for small digital cameras and start its operations in October 2008.

The company said it will invest 5 billion yen in the plant that will also start manufacturing medical devices, including endoscopical instruments, in spring 2010.

The plant, designed to meet expanding demand for both items, will have a total floor space of some 40,000 square meters. It be built on a 120,000-square-meter site in an industrial park in the southern Vietnamese province of Dong Nai, the company said.
