Historic international photography competition opens
£18,000 up for grabs in Royal Photographic Society's international photography competition
The Royal Photographic Society (RPS) is calling for entries for its 151st International Print Exhibition, a competition won last year by a non-professional photographer.
Last year's overall title went to amateur photographer Richard Merritt who beat more than 2,200 entries worldwide to snap up the Gold Medal with his picture of a Scalloped Hammerhead Shark, photographed in waters off the coast of Costa Rica (pictured).
The contest has been staged almost every year since the RPS was established in 1853.
Boasting a total prize pot of £18,000 – including £10,000 to the overall winner – this year's competition will award one Gold medal, two Silver and three Bronze medals.
The best photographer under 25 will bag an Olympus E-510 digital SLR camera kit.
